    Try a seamless transition from back of bolt opening to deflector as one solid ramp out instead of the bolt opening, hard angle, then deflector, does that make sense?

      Yes! This is actually what I did with later versions of the design.

    Nice project, the ATF will appreciate you being into this. When you're back to HT stuff I have a thought for you. I inherited an Arisaka Type 99 and its on a sporter stock. My brother, the previous holder of this family heirloom wanted to restore it to it's Imperial Army configuration but the stock is hard to find or pricey. Can it be 3D printed?

    Never understood why people say A poly upper and a poly lower aren’t equal to aluminum When 99 percent of handguns have a poly lower (zero pressure points) And the poly upper is the same thing because there is no pressure on it either The barrel is the only fixed part that’s under pressure extreme pressure and the bolt is also Now for a bolt action is a whole Different ballgame because all the recoil is absorbed in the chamber and in the bolt and in the stock So they need to be made stronger than there semi automatic AR15 cuzins 😊

    Was there a video showing your techniques for modeling these custom supports? The theory behind them is excellent and well presented, but modeling them in a time efficient and precise way? I'd love to see that.

    • @HoffmanTactical

      It depends so much on the part it could be a tough video to make, but I'll think about it.

      @@HoffmanTactical Thank you for considering it. I'm curious, was loft one of the tools you used to get such smooth sweeping shapes in those supports?

    • @cilismoniker7322

      @@HoffmanTactical Aah. So basically something like a non-manifold layer (sheet of paper) and then a shell modifier? (3DsMax term. But basically, makes the back faces "real" and turns it into a double sided real object.) I'm assuming that thickened surfaces is the solidworks name for the same process?

    If you're still looking for a better desiccant, calcium oxide (CaO) is extremely powerful and easy to diy. It reacts exothermically with water to make calcium hydroxide. It is easy to make- just heat up limestone/ marble/ eggshells past 850°C with a blowtorch or electric heater. To regenerate it, heat it up a little past 500°C (that's how strongly it bonds to water). Also note, that a sufficiently strong desiccant will dry cold filament in a sealed container as long as it's not leaking. It's just really slow.

    Can I give you a idea? MALEABLE heat resistance polymer, the gun could be shock resistent, think about that, you dont need a breakable hard case, it can be EVEN more durable.

    • @HoffmanTactical
      @HoffmanTactical 8 дней назад

      The downside of this is that the soft / shock absorbing shell takes away from the hard / load supporting core. The result is a weaker part.

    Great video, thank you! I have a question: I need to print an intake for a go kart engine. Where the small carburetor is on the end. Karts have no suspension so the part needs to be strong to 'shaking' with the carburetor on the end. Can you advise the type of filament I should use please?
